PacDrive M obsolescence

With PacDrive M obsolescence have you considered who you would turn to for specialist support?

Packaging machines, their equipment and systems can last for 10-20 years or longer if well-maintained. Even though it has been obsolete since December 2018, the same can be true of the PacDrive M range.

The biggest challenge faced by manufacturing companies is unplanned downtime. On average they experienced of 20 hours a week. This is almost a full day’s production on a 3 x 8 hour shift basis. What’s more the average cost of these 20 hours is in excess of £100K. And at just over £5K per hour it can be more than half a million pounds a year for some companies.

In a recent Maintenance Engineering report more than half the respondents were millennials, illustrating a demographic shift in age. Moreover the percentage of people in engineering between 25 and 34 is 25% making them the largest single age group. As a result the experience necessary to maintain legacy equipment will become harder to find.

Obsolescence management then becomes very important. Finding a supplier with the knowledge and experience of the legacy equipment is necessary. Equally they should be able to supply and repair parts too as the OEM may no longer keep stock.
